Welcome to Shine Camera Club
Shine Camera Club, part of Shine Saturday School, offering a free photography workshop for children aged 9-10 years to help them thrive creatively, develop their confidence and most importantly have fun.
Thank you so much for your kindness!
Our Mission
Shine Camera Club teaches children the basic skills of photography through using analogue/film cameras to educate them how to stop, look and snap at the world they live in through their own eyes. They will explore portraiture, still life and street photography over the course of four weeks. They will learn about film cameras and lighting, famous photographers and how powerful an image can speak without words.
Shine Camera Club aims to provide a safe learning space for children to feel inspired through visual feelings and to build their confidence to go out and become photographers for the day. These images will be captured and developed and the best selection from each child will be exhibited at the end of the workshop for the public to enjoy.
MTCT – “We aim to create ongoing learning opportunities for the whole community through collaboration, creativity and innovation. Our objectives are focused around continuous professional development, curriculum innovation and raising already high standards of teaching and learning.”
Cindy Sasha – “I never had the opportunity as a child to explore photography or to understand that it could be a career. Coming from a working class background to dream was impossible and opportunities didn’t present themselves like today. I want to make sure this camera club inspires and allow children to dream again.”
Our Story
Cindy Sasha has built a trusting relationship with Kristina Burton, Project and Development Manager at Mitcham Town Community Trust. Kristina is an advocate for children’s Arts and has invited Cindy to teach photography at Shine Merton Saturday School; a place for children to get extra support and development from dedicated teachers and volunteers. Arts is an important part of children’s growth, helping them to grow their confidence, explore their identity and the world around them and to express themselves through various medium.
